My experience in Muonio staying at Harriniva Adventure Resort (January 2024)
Let‘s talk about my experience staying at Harriniva Adventure Resort in Muonio!
If you didn’t read my previous email, I talked about the two activities I loved during my stay: a 15 km husky ride and the Arctic Sauna World.
But I was also surprised by all the activities they offer: ice fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, Panorama Safari, traditional cottage dinners, Aurora Adventure by Snowmobiles, Reindeer Aurora Experience, Ice Bar, Aurora Snow Shuttle, Aurora Snowshoeing, Secrets of the Northern Lights, the enchanting Aurora Hut Glass Igloo overnight experience… and the fact that when it comes to winter activities, absolutely everything is covered!
Here my three reasons to consider Muonio as a winter destination
1. EXPERIENCES
Muonio offers a unique experience, as it is not yet so popular. This automatically means more authentic experiences away from the hustle and bustle of the most popular winter destination, Rovaniemi. Somehow, the experience of ‘Winter Wonderland’ feels more natural when being so close to the real Lapland scenery.
2. LOCATION & HOW TO GET THERE:
- 1 h 20 min by plane from the capital city Helsinki to Kittilä (International Airport)
- 1 h from Kittilä International Airport to Muonio by bus or taxi
- 3 h 10 min by bus from Rovaniemi to Muonio
- 1000 km by car from Helsinki to Muonio
- 365 km from Tromsø to Muonio
- 14 h 26 min from Helsinki to Kolari by night train (I’d consider this also as a unique experience).
- 1 h from Kolari (Northernmost train station in Finland) to Muonio
Location is ideal to see the Northern Lights, but remember you always need solar activity, clear skies, and location and timing are crucial in order to see them. Additionally, being away from light pollution enhances the viewing experience.
During my stay I saw the Northern Lights two nights (2/2). It wasn’t the greatest show, but I saw them just a couple of hundred meters outside of my room!
3. MUONIO HAS THE CLEANEST AIR IN THE WORLD!
I say no more here, but it boasts the cleanest air in the world!
