Strawberry season is usually the highlight of summer in Finland. But this year (2025), the cool and rainy weather affected the crop and made the season feel a bit short and sour.
Luckily, Finnish summer isn’t done giving us delicious berries — now it’s time for raspberries (vadelmat) to take the spotlight! From late July to early August, the raspberry season begins, bringing with it an opportunity to enjoy nature, slow down, and literally enjoy the fruits of your labor.
🫐 Can You Pick Raspberries in the Forest or Only on Farms?
Yes — you can find raspberries in both places. Wild raspberries grow in Finnish forests, but there’s a catch…
🍃 You need to know where to look. And here’s a very Finnish truth:
💬 *“There are four things Finns don’t share:
Their berry picking spots
Their mushroom spots
Their fishing spots
And… their feelings.”*
So while you can pick raspberries in the wild thanks to Everyman’s Rights, you’re unlikely to get tips on the best locations. Most people keep their secret spots private — even from close friends.
That’s why farms like Wennborgin Tila are perfect. They’re open to the public, easy to find online, and ideal for families, travelers, and anyone looking for a relaxed, easy experience.
🍓 Bonus tip: Many strawberry farms also offer raspberry picking later in the season — follow them on social media or check their websites for seasonal updates.
Where can I pick raspberries near Helsinki?
If you’re near Helsinki, one of the best places to experience raspberry picking is Wennborgin Tila — a lovely family-friendly farm in Östersundom, about 40 minutes from the city center.
Our Strawberry Picking Day at Wennborgin Tila (Hyvinkää)
This weekend, after a quick search online, I called Wennborgin Tila to ask about the raspberry picking situation and to make a reservation. On July 20, 2025, we made our way to the farm with the kids and my parents, who are visiting us from Mexico.
What we thought would be a simple summer outing turned into something truly meaningful and memorable for everyone.
My mom, who had never picked raspberries before, was genuinely amazed. She said:
-
- “Look at them, they are so beautiful and so red.”
- “I can’t believe that at 64 years old, this is my first time doing this.”- She has been to Finland three times!
- “You are kidding me, look how many there are here”
- “I hadn’t even seen how raspberries grow.”
It was emotional, beautiful, and a perfect reminder of why these small seasonal traditions and unique experiences matter so much.
Strawberry Picking Area = Main Area
The main area of the farm is focused on strawberry picking, and there’s a lovely terrace decorated with strawberry-themed details where you can sit, relax, and buy fresh berries or other local products such greanpeas, potatoes, mushrooms and, of course delicious cakes, ice cream and coffe!
Raspberry Picking Area= 2km away from the main Area
But the raspberry self-picking area is in a different location — a bit further away. I’d say it’s about 2 km from the main entrance, and it’s definitely better to go by car than on foot. There’s also a parking area near the raspberry fields.
Along the way, you’ll pass other greenhouses growing strawberries — and righ after those you must turn right and you will spot more greenhouse. There time the raspberry ones! Wennborgin Tila also shows on their website where you can find their products in local shops- Sadly the information is only available in English!
The raspberry area is peaceful and well-organized. There’s free parking, friendly staff, and the rows are clean and easy to walk through. I’d even say there’s no need for special shoes or boots — no thorny bushes to worry about! Just one thing to be aware of: there were some bees around, which is normal in berry fields.
Farm tip: pick raspberries in small containers
It’s recommended to pick raspberries into small containers to avoid damaging them. No worries – Wennborgin Farm has you covered! You can buy a cardboard tray with 8 small containers for just €1.90 each one!
Of course, you’re also welcome to bring your own containers. They will be weighed and marked at the beginning, and their weight will be deducted when calculating the final price.
At the time of our visit, the price for raspberries was €15.90/kg.*
*Note: Prices may vary throughout the season!
We ended up taking two trays plus my own basket — and picked over 6 kilos in total, paying €99.52!
Afterward, we planned to return to the main farm to enjoy waffles and ice cream, but since it was such a warm day (over 26°C) and the kids were ready to leave the place, we decided to head straight back home.
Later this week, we’ll make our own version of waffles with fresh berries and ice cream, and right after I finish writing this blog… we’re planning to make some homemade strawberry jam jars!

A Little Invitation to Try Something New
I’m aware of the price of these activities and the travel involved — for some, it’s simply not possible. Even for us, raspberry picking isn’t something we do every summer! Usually, we buy small containers several times throughout the season or whenever we can afford them.
But this year, it wasn’t just about picking raspberries — it became a memory that brought three generations together. And my dad paid for them! How lucky we were!
But definitely, raspberry picking today it reminded me that sometimes the simplest things — being outdoors, doing something with your hands, laughing with loved ones — are what make life feel full.
So here’s my invitation to you:
Wherever you are — in Finland or anywhere else — try something new this season.
Go raspberry picking, finally make that recipe you’ve saved on your phone, or find a local activity you haven’t tried before!
Or even do something simple that brings you joy.
Because sometimes, it’s in the small, everyday adventures that we find the sweetest moments.
