Discover My Updated Top 6 Winter Activities in Finland!

OMG, I never thought I would say this, but ICE PLUNGING is now my MUST-DO ACTIVITY in Finland or anywhere else! And it’s trending, isn’t it? So, if you have the opportunity to do it, don’t miss it!

What made me change my mind?

I think trying something new is part of it! Last year, it was a lovely reindeer ride in Rovaniemi, and for the first time, the reindeer went fast, and nobody was holding it! That was crazy, and the second-best part of it was the beautiful sunset at -18°C! Watch the video here!

Now going bach to the ICE PLUNGLING EXPERIENCE the feeling of the cold getting to your body is indescribable, and once you are out, when your skin starts battling to return to normal temperature , it feels AMAZING! Like spikes hitting you! A little bit painfull, I’m not going to deny it! It might sound extreme—it was also for me!—but it lasts seconds! 100% worth the experience!

So, here is the updated full list:

  1. Northern Lights – I think they will never move in my rankings! I love seeing them. And I can’t wish for a better thing than a big show for you when visiting Finland. In case you are traveling with me, I will be your aurora alert. You can rest inside and stay warm while I go and check the situation outside! And if we are out and you decide to go inside, I will probably wait a little bit longer outside. No worries I will not break your heart and say if you missed the best part! Just note that even applications can fail in the forecast, and it’s a natural phenomenon, so I can’t guarantee a big show. Shouldn’t say this but: sh**t happens sometimes and sometimes they are disappointing! See the picture below!
  2. Ice Plunge – See? I never imagined I could rank it so high, but I LOVED IT! And I’m dying to do it again!
  3. Husky Ride – This used to be my number 2! Still, I highly recommend it! If you get to witness the process where the dogs start barking, then when they are selecting the dogs for the race, and putting on the ropes, it’s really cool to see! Then you have to experience the adrenaline, either from driving the sled or feeling the speed on the sled when the dogs start running! Note: they run fast at the beginning, and the dogs slow down! Depending on your tour, they can go faster at some times and slow down again! But, in general, the fastest speed is usually at the beginning.
  4. Snowshoeing – I’d say this is pretty cool when the trees are covered with snow.
  5. Reindeer ride: – Not my favorite, unless, once again, you have the winter wonderland landscapes in the background! Spoiler alert: they are slow and you’ll only see the reindeer’s backside.
But I have to tell you, last year I had the most beautiful experience in Rovaniemi with @christmasreindeeroy It was a fast ride and nobody was guiding the reindeer. I can wait for them to come back and offer this service again!
  6. Ice Fishing – Definitely not my favorite, but I just love the fact that you are standing on a frozen river, lake, or sea.

Here’s an example: Last year, with a friend, the numbers in the apps were so high that we drove over 2 hours only to see this! But one day before and after were better, except we didn’t take pictures together!

My first time doing ice plunging in Muonio at -26°C!
And to be honest, when you go out, it’s the “worst” part!
